My regular readers know how much I love the sandstone country of Arnhem Land. My mate, Bruce Swain and I walked across Arnhem Land on foot in the early nineties and part of me is still there, walking through timeless sandstone gorges. The Time of Thunder is set in that country. It took me twenty years to get the story right, and this is the result.
More outback crime than thriller, Camp Leichhardt is the story of mystery and intrigue in a grey nomad camp on the Roper River. I serialised this story in 2017 and it has been selling steadily eversince.
This is the book that started my writing career. My agent at the time, Brian Cook, submitted the manuscript to several publishers, two of which were interested enough to take it to an acquistion meeting. HarperCollins came back with the offer of a three book deal and I was suddenly a thriller writer! Fun times.
